Yesterday we were invited to participate in a Dance performance at Prestfelde. Eleven students who show a keen interest in Dance were selected to participate in the performance. They are from SLD and MLD groups and range in age from Lower to Sixth Form. Students have been rehearsing the routine during their lunch times on Wednesday and Thursdays and have worked incredibly hard to produce an amazing performance of such a high standard.

The music was chosen from the popular musical The Greatest Showman “The Greatest Show” for the dance. Their lively piece explores the relationship between sounds and actions whilst demonstrating the enjoyment they feel when listening to a favourite piece of music. The variation in the music allowed them to express themselves freely and imagine they were performing in The Greatest Show!  Staff led by Jo Rhodes from Link and Upper have worked hard for weeks to rehearse with the students.  All the time, effort and hard work was worth every second just to see their proud faces when they finished the routine and look up at all the faces in the audience clapping and cheering for them.

Quotes from the students and parents after the event

“The people were cheering, I was happy!”

“That was awesome.”

“Amazing! I was excited and happy, really happy.”

“Amazing performance last night! We loved it! Big thanks to all staff involved. A great experience.”

They will also be performing at Oakengates Theatre in July, so watch this space!
