About Severndale School

Severndale Specialist School was established in September 1995 following the reorganisation of provision for children with special educational needs in Shropshire.  In September 2008, a large scale development was completed at the site on the Monkmoor Campus.  In September 2011 a second provision based at Mary Webb School and Science College opened to cater for secondary aged pupils with moderate learning difficulties.

Our children and young people are aged 3 to 19 and have a range of learning difficulties.  These include moderate, severe, complex and profound learning difficulties, those with autism, complex medical conditions and physical and mobility difficulties.  A number of our young people present behavioural difficulties arising from their condition; many have communication difficulties.

At Severndale we:

  • ensure that school is a happy, safe and healthy place to learn
  • provide a high quality age appropriate education for our young people
  • have rigorous commitment to professional learning and developing the skills of our workforce
  • ensure our young people are treated as individuals through a committment to personalised learning
  • ensure all our young people are treated with dignity and respect
  • work cooperatively with a range of professional and community organisations to share and enhance expertise for the benefits of our young people and the community as a whole
  • reflect on the ever changing needs of our young people and are responsive in adapting our ways of working and developing provision to cater for these
  • value parents' and carers understanding of their children and commit to working closely with them
  • promote the emotional wellbeing of our young people through play, outdoor learning and an extended provision beyond the school day
  • provide a centre of expertise for the support of families, carers and other professionals
