On Thursday 14th March the Special Olympics will begin in Abu Dhabi and will finish on Thursday 21st March. Just like the Olympic and Paralympic games this event happens every 4 years. The Special Olympics is for athletes with learning disabilities – including autism, Down’s Syndrome and other learning disabilities.
129 athletes from Great Britain will be taking part in the games, alongside 7000 other athletes from around the world.
You and your young person can follow the Special Olympics by visiting the BBC Sport website or by downloading the app ‘World Games Abu Dhabi 2019’. Here you will be able to get regular updates throughout the games and you can keep up to date with Great Britain’s progress.
