Pupils usually enter the Academy in nursery or reception classes via the Local Authority placement panel.

Throughout the department we follow an exploratory way of working which encourages independence, communication skills and interaction, enabling pupils to both enjoy their education and to maximise their ability to learn effectively, at whatever level they are working.

To enhance learning, a wide range of additional activities are offered across the Academic year including horse riding, swimming, forest school, rebound and numerous curriculum based workshops such as Diwali, Christmas and Chinese New Year.

All classes are fortunate to have access to a wide range of additional facilities beyond the classroom including the interactive tropical garden, the sensory garden, a specialist interactive room, the food technology room, a fully resourced Design and Technology room and an onsite Forest School area.

Across the academic year, we encourage parents and carers at the Academy to join us to find out about the work of the department and how their children are progressing, through class open mornings, concerts and parent evenings, as well as encouraging regular communication through the home school book.
